How to Pick the Right CBD

We get it. Dipping your toes into the world of CBD can be overwhelming at times. There’s a lot to learn, a lot of new terms to understand, and A LOT of options to choose from. Don’t worry, you’re not the first to feel that way and you won’t be the last. Luckily, you found this blog and we’re dishing out free knowledge.

The first thing you need to know is that everybody is different and every body is different. So while the information below will help get you pointed in the right direction, you’re in charge of deciding what’s best for you. If you have concerns, you should start by talking to a doctor before adding any new products, supplements, or medications to your regular health routine.

What’s the Right Form of CBD for Me?

There are four main “forms” of CBD: oils, edibles, creams, and smokables. CBD is extracted from hemp or cannabis as oil, which makes it easy to infuse into other products and create more ways for you to enjoy it. The form of CBD you choose depends on what effect you’re hoping to get or what symptoms/conditions you’re trying to address.

Placing the oil under your tongue is widely recognized as the best way to absorb CBD and enjoy all of its benefits. However, if you’re trying to address a specific condition such as eczema or digestive issues, you may be better off trying a cream, edible, or capsule.

What’s the Correct Dosage for Me?

Your height, weight, and overall health will play a role in determining what dosage will work for you. If you’ve spoken to a doctor and they gave you the green light to add CBD to your health routine (but didn’t provide a specific dosage recommendation) we suggest starting with a low dose (10–25mg per day) to see how it affects you. If you don’t notice any impact after a few days or weeks, gradually ramp up your dosage.

On the flip side, if you notice that your original dosage works well, you can experiment with lowering it to see if you still experience the same effects. This will help you save some CBD—and your hard-earned money.

How Often Should I Take CBD?

Imagine if you’d never drank coffee before. You probably wouldn’t drink six cups or start slamming shots of espresso on your first day, right? Right. The same mentality applies to CBD—or any kind of supplement or medication. Cannonballing into things could lead to a negative first experience, and the whole point of using CBD is to help you feel better.

Just like with the dosage amount, start slow and work your way up to a comfortable dosage frequency. You can even try splitting your initial dosage into two or three parts and taking it throughout the day for a more consistent result.

Can I Take too Much CBD?

Technically? Yes. Realistically? Not a chance. Studies have generally shown that humans can tolerate large doses of CBD (over 1,500mg per day) for extended periods without any significant side effects. Since most CBD products range from 10–80mg per dose/serving, the likelihood of taking more CBD than you want is extremely low, especially if you’re easing into things as we suggest.

That being said, some studies performed on mice have raised concerns about liver damage when high doses of CBD are administered over extended periods. Precautions should also be taken if you’re currently on any other prescription medications, as the interaction between CBD and other medications is not yet widely documented.

We hope this helps you feel more comfortable starting your journey into the world of CBD. Remember to talk with your doctor if you have any questions about your overall health and how best to incorporate CBD into your health routine.
